Following a nationwide search for the most promising companies in the UK, Monumental Games has been unveiled as ‘Innovative Business of the Year’ at the Fast Growth Business Awards 2009.

Judges Comments:

“This year’s winner, Monumental Games, is not yet a household name, though it might well be within a year or two. Its business, that of massively multiplayer online games, will also mean little to many, yet this British business is already a global leader in its sector.

Monumental Games technology enables literally millions of people to play games with and against each other all round the world. Monumental have both innovative technology and an innovative approach to business, licensing their technology to other game creators and also producing their own games.

The leading business in this sector has revenue well over US $1 billion per year, and Monumental are well placed to grow their own revenue to tens if not hundreds of millions of pounds within a few years.”

The FGBA Awards - What are they?

The Fast Growth Business Awards, which honour the UK’s fastest growing businesses, which includes past winners Multimap, InsureandGo and LoveFilm are organised by Crimson Business in conjunction with Growing Business magazine.

Who Attended?

Presented by Adam Shaw of BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme, the black tie awards ceremony took place at the London Marriott on Wednesday 18th March. Amongst the 300 entrepreneurs and industry leaders who attended, were Kanya King, founder of the MOBO Organisation, David Soskin, Vice-Chairman of cheapflights.co.uk and Andy Baker, Managing Director of Friends Reunited.

The judges were hugely impressed by Monumental Games entry. James Hurley, editor of Growing Business magazine and Growingbusiness.co.uk comments:

“The calibre of businesses that enter the Fast Growth Business is extremely high. And despite the current economic climate this year was no exception. The winners all had that little something to set them apart from the rest and the judges are in no doubt that they are set for an outstanding future.”

Other judges included Margaret Manning, CEO of Reading Room, Alastair Lukies, CEO of Monitise and Perry Wilson, Managing Director of Insure and Go, who were the winners of the Fast Growth Business awards last year.

The award was received by co-founders Rik Alexander (CEO) and Rocco Loscalzo (CTO). Rik commented -

“While it is humbling to receive this award, I also feel that it is much deserved as we have an incredible and motivated team at Monumental who have achieved an immense amount over the last year.”

“It’s a great place to work”

added Rocco,

“and of course that all comes down to working with great people. In the end this award is a testament to that.”
